What is Sukkari Mufattal?
Mufattal describes the shape of the date, not its variety: a date that twisted on itself as it dried, keeping a soft flesh inside a firm skin. The variety is Sukkari, and Mufattal is the shape we sort it by.
Our Mufattal comes from our farms in Qassim, the home of Sukkari. It is sorted fruit by fruit into declared grades, packed in a box that keeps each date’s shape from being crushed, and stamped with its grade and harvest year: harvest 1448. We do not buy on the open market, and we do not mix in anyone else’s harvest.
What is Sukkari Galaxy?
We sell Sukkari Galaxy in its grades: Everyday, Premium, Royal and Rare. Galaxy Royal is glossy fruit the colour of dark amber, arriving by the kilo in the Aljoud bag, with a window that shows the dates. Galaxy Premium is a full kilo in a frosted, see-through bag that closes with a zip. There is also an outing box of about half a kilo, and a tin and a box of Galaxy Royal for gifting. Galaxy Everyday is the smallest Galaxy fruit, and Galaxy Rare the largest and rarest, super jumbo, in a very limited quantity.
Its quantity is limited: it is among what reaches us in a quantity that will not come again, shown in the shop while it lasts. Our shop does not state where this Galaxy grew, its season or its taste, so we write nothing about them here.
The grades: from Everyday to Rare
The same variety, the same palms, the same day. The difference is in the shape alone: size, how even the twist is, how uniform the colour is, and how closely the skin holds the flesh. Royal meets all four at their highest, Premium meets them, and Everyday is small and broken dates for cooking. The taste is close across them all.
| Grade | The fruit | For |
|---|---|---|
| Rare | The largest and rarest fruit, super jumbo | A very limited quantity, by early order |
| Royal | Jumbo fruit, fully twisted, perfectly even colour | A special guest and gifting |
| Premium | Full, even size, evenly twisted, a light amber colour, skin holding to the flesh | The majlis, guests and gifting |
| Middle | Fruit larger than Everyday and smaller than Premium | — |
| Everyday | Small or broken fruit, the full taste, an irregular shape | Cooking, sweets and juices |
These criteria are written for sorting Mufattal. Galaxy is sold under the same grade names, and our shop has not written sorting criteria for it. How Mufattal is sorted, step by step, is on the grades page.
