Luxury dates and Royal dates
Last reviewed:
What makes dates luxury?
The same variety, the same palms, the same day: the difference between one grade and another is in the shape alone. We sort by hand, fruit by fruit rather than by the kilo, on four criteria:
- Size.
- How even the twist is.
- How uniform the colour is.
- How closely the skin holds the flesh.
Royal meets all four at their highest, Premium meets them, and Everyday is small and broken dates for cooking. The taste is close across them all.
That is why, in our own writing, we avoid “Luxury dates” on its own and write instead what is in the box: “Sukkari Mufattal, first grade, harvest 1448”. The grade is stamped on the box with its harvest year.
Royal, Premium and Everyday: the three grades
In the market, “luxury” is a loose word; with us, “Premium” is the name of a grade with written conditions. Sukkari Mufattal comes in three grades, from our farms in Qassim:
| Grade | The fruit | For | A kilo today |
|---|---|---|---|
| Royal | The largest fruit, fully twisted, perfectly even colour. The very top of the sorting. | For a special guest and for gifting | SAR 58 |
| Premium | Full, even size, evenly twisted, light amber colour, skin holding to the flesh. | For the majlis, for guests and for gifting | SAR 35 |
| Everyday | Small or broken fruit, the full taste, irregular in shape. | For cooking, sweets and juices | SAR 23 |
Whatever does not meet Premium's conditions goes down a grade, and is sold under its own name, not Premium's. The three grades are side by side on the grades page.
Royal dates: Sukkari Mufattal Royal
Royal is what comes off the top of the sorting table: the largest fruit, the most fully twisted and the most even in colour. We do not sort it to a quantity but by what meets the standard. These are the products in the Royal grade, at today's prices:
| Product | Size | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Mufattal Royal | 1 kg | SAR 58 |
| Mufattal Royal carton | 3 kg | SAR 123 |
| Royal dates, ready to store | 2 kg including the jar | SAR 118 |
| Royal Tray | Small tray | SAR 109 |
| Medium tray | SAR 129 | |
| Large tray | SAR 169 |
The struck-through price is the everyday price; the one before it is the current offer price.
Some of the luxury gift boxes are of the Royal grade too: Sukkari Galaxy Royal Box, Sukkari Galaxy Royal Tin and Aljoud Black Box.
